No air pockets on pump suction lines

On a horizontal line, a concentric reducer leaves a high point where air collects. On a pump suction, that air pocket can cause cavitation. An eccentric reducer removes the high point: it is installed flat side up.

Installed flat side down, it lets the line drain completely, which helps with slurries and lines that must be purged.

Our eccentric reducers are made from seamless A234 WPB pipe to ASME B16.9 dimensions, STD or XS wall, painted, covering large end Ø 33.4 to 219.1 mm, small end Ø 26.7 to 168.3 mm. For vertical lines, see the concentric reducer.

Frequently asked questions

Which way up should an eccentric reducer go?

Flat side up on a pump suction, to avoid an air pocket. Flat side down when the line must drain completely, or on a pipe rack to keep the bottom of the pipes level.

Why not a concentric reducer on the suction?

On a horizontal line it creates a high point where air gets trapped. Air drawn into the pump lowers its flow and can damage it through cavitation.

Do you make EN 10253-1 eccentric reducers?

Our standard eccentric references are ASME B16.9. Other versions can be made to drawing.
